IndiaAI Mission Launches with 14,000 GPUs for AI Compute

• The IndiaAI Mission, aiming to bolster India's AI capabilities, has secured approximately 14,000 GPUs from ten companies following a competitive bidding process, with over 10,000 already available and the remaining 4,000 to be procured shortly.

• This initiative, funded with ₹4,563.36 crore (44% of the total ₹10,371.92 crore budget), will provide common compute capacity through a dedicated portal accessible to various stakeholders including government ministries, state governments, academia, researchers, MSMEs, startups, students, and industry.

• The procured GPUs comprise a mix of high-end (70%, primarily Nvidia H100) and low-end models, with prices averaging 42% below market rates thanks to competitive bidding, further reduced by government subsidies of up to 40% for eligible users based on project importance.

• The IndiaAI Compute Portal, launching soon, will manage access to this compute capacity, along with discounted network and storage services, as detailed in a memo sent to relevant ministries and state governments outlining the subsidized rates for compute, storage, and network services offered by the empanelled companies.
