Eknath Shinde Demands Home Portfolio in Maharashtra Government

• Eknath Shinde, the deputy chief minister of Maharashtra and leader of the Shiv Sena, has requested the crucial home portfolio from the BJP, a key demand within the ongoing portfolio allocation discussions among the Mahayuti alliance partners.

• This demand comes after the BJP's Devendra Fadnavis became chief minister, with Shinde as his deputy, following the recent state assembly elections won by the Mahayuti (BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP).

• Shinde's insistence on the home portfolio, which oversees the state police, is significant given his past political maneuvering, including his rebellion against Uddhav Thackeray in 2022 that led to the collapse of the previous government and the formation of the current alliance.
