Tamil Nadu Doctor Stabbed by Patient's Son in Chennai Hospital, Prompts Safety Concerns

• A Tamil Nadu government doctor was stabbed seven times on Wednesday morning by a young man whose mother was being treated for cancer by the same doctor at the Kalaignar Centenary Hospital in Chennai.

• The doctor, an oncologist with a pacemaker, suffered injuries to his upper chest, head, and stomach, and is currently in stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

• The accused, a 26-year-old patient attender, was arrested after attempting to escape following the attack, which occurred in the hospital's outpatient department due to his suspicion of incorrect medication being prescribed to his mother.

• The incident has sparked protests among doctors at the hospital, leading to the suspension of non-emergency treatments, and raised concerns about the safety of healthcare professionals, prompting calls for increased security measures, including armed guards, to prevent such attacks in the future.
