Rajasthan Bypolls: Independent Candidate Naresh Meena Slaps SDM at Polling Booth

ʉۢ In a shocking incident during the Rajasthan bypolls, independent candidate Naresh Meena from the Deoli-Uniara constituency was caught on camera slapping Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Amit Choudhary at a polling booth in Samravata. The video shows Meena entering the booth and assaulting Choudhary, who was overseeing election protocol, before being restrained by police.

• Meena, a former Congress leader suspended for contesting independently after the party chose another candidate, alleged that the SDM had allowed three people to vote illegally and accused the police of surrounding and intimidating him. He urged voters to respond through their votes and "hit them with votes."

• The by-election in Deoli-Uniara was necessitated by the resignation of Congress leader Harish Chandra Meena, who won the seat in 2018 and 2023 but vacated it to serve in the Lok Sabha. Voting for seven assembly seats across Rajasthan, including Deoli-Uniara, commenced under tight security, with over 9,000 personnel deployed across 1,914 polling stations. The results are expected on November 23.
