South Asia's Largest Battery Energy Storage System Inaugurated in Delhi

• A 20-MW (40 MWh) battery energy storage system (BESS), touted as the largest in South Asia, has been inaugurated in Kilokari, Delhi, by Delhi Power Minister Ashish Sood; this system is also India's first commercially approved utility-scale energy storage system.

• The BESS, installed at a BRPL substation, will provide up to four hours of reliable daily power to over one lakh residents in South Delhi, improving power supply, grid stability, and reducing network overloading, while also optimizing power purchase costs and integrating renewable power.

• Implemented in collaboration with BRPL, IndiGrid, GEAPP, and Amperehour, the project utilizes advanced Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) technology and was completed within a year, showcasing a significant advancement in urban energy management and setting a new standard for grid reliability.
