Supreme Court to Hear Five Petitions Against Waqf Amendment Act


• The Supreme Court of India will hear only five petitions challenging the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, to avoid overcrowding and streamline proceedings; approximately 65 other petitions will be treated as interventions.

• The selected petitioners include prominent figures such as Islamic scholar Arshad Madani, social activist Muhammad Jameel Merchant, and All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen president Asaduddin Owaisi, representing diverse perspectives on the Act.

• The Court will hear the case, titled 'In Re: The Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025,' for interim orders on May 5th, with Advocate Ejaz Maqbool as the nodal counsel for the petitioners and Advocate Kanu Agrawal representing the government.
