• Cyclone Dana is expected to make landfall in Odisha and West Bengal on October 25, bringing with it wind speeds of up to 120 kmph and heavy rainfall. The Odisha government has planned to evacuate over 10 lakh people from vulnerable areas, while the West Bengal government has closed schools in seven districts as a precautionary measure.
• The cyclone has also disrupted train services, with several trains cancelled in both Odisha and West Bengal. The Indian Coast Guard is on high alert and has mobilised its vessels and aircraft to respond to any emergencies.
• The IMD has warned fishermen not to venture into the sea from October 23 to 25, as wind speeds are expected to reach 60 kmph along the Odisha-West Bengal coast. The Odisha government has also prepared a list of pregnant women who are expected to deliver in the next two weeks and is shifting them to nearby hospitals to ensure their safety during the cyclone.
• Authorities at the Kolkata airport are also taking precautions to handle any disruptions caused by the cyclone, including inspecting the airport infrastructure and drainage system and checking all installations.
