 In India, July 7 is National Javelin Day.This day was chosen to commemorate Neeraj Chopra's historic gold medal victory in the javelin throw at the Tokyo Olympics, which he achieved at 87.58 meters, by the Athletics Federation of India, the nation's regulatory organization for athletics. This event honors his accomplishment and spreads awareness of the sport of javelin throwing across the country.


Neeraj Chopra created history on August 7, 2021, when he won the gold medal in the men's javelin throw final at the Tokyo Olympics by throwing the javelin 87.58 meters. With this triumph, India won its first-ever gold medal in an Olympic track and field competition. With this accomplishment, Chopra also joined Abhinav Bindra as the second Indian individual gold medallist.
