Deadline to register exotic animals in India approaches on August 28

• The deadline for declaring and registering exotic animals in India, as per the Living Animal Species (Reporting and Registration) Rules, 2024, is set to expire on August 28, 2024.

• Individuals, organizations, and zoos must report and register any animals listed in Schedule IV of the Wild Life (Protection) Act 1972 through the PARIVESH 2.0 portal.

• This registration process aims to create a unified information system for exotic species, control zoonotic diseases, and ensure proper care and well-being of these animals.

• Wildlife activists have raised concerns about the recent surge in smuggling of exotic animals from Southeast Asia and other regions.
