Nipah in kozhikkode (kerala) -PRECAUTIONS

 Human infection happens when infected domestic animals like pigs and cows are exposed to humans, or when people consume fresh date palm sap that has been contaminated with infected bat saliva, urine, or feces. During the outbreak, person-to-person transmission by droplet infection is also frequent. A risk factor for the onset of disease is exposure to patient secretions. The time of incubation period varies from 4 to 45 days. The average incubation period for person-to-person transmission is 6 to 11 days.



PRECAUTIONS

*Avoid physical contact with an infected person

*Wash hands after caring for or visiting sick people

*Stay away from consuming Raw date palm sap or toddy

*Discard fruits with sign of animal bites

*Wear N95 mask when at public places ,working, staying or travelling

Currently, there are no specific antiviral medications that can treat Nipah. The main forms of treatment are symptomatic relief and extensive support care for ARDS and encephalitis.
